Obsolete Sounds.

Some things are obsolete… but their sounds…we miss them too. Some we don’t even know anymore!

1. The Rotary Dial Telephone

2. Manual Typewriters

The only place where I still here manual typewriters is in the re-runs of Mad Men I watch… but they do sound amazing. Especially in those busy office scenes where you can hear a quire of typewriters singing.

3. Flash Cube

I’m not entirely sure I’ve ever heard the sound of a Flash Cube, but I found this amazingly cutesy 60′s add for a Flash Cube, and simply had to post it…

4. TV Channel Selector

Often in Radio Djay’s ‘promotional intro’ clip, you can hear the lines “don’t touch that dial”… this is what it sounds like.

5. Record Changer.

Being a Cameron Crow addict, the movie Almost Famous features the sound of the record change. Except for in movies, this sound is almost obsolete in daily life.

6. Old School Cash Register!

What can we say, that old school cashregister “ping” is the soundtrack to making money. ‘Cajiiiing!’

7. The film projector

8. Broken Record.
Remember when you’d beg mom over and over for something and she’d finally yell, “You sound like a broken record!”? She wasn’t referring to pops or hisses, but the repetitive effect that happened when the needle got stuck and played the same few notes over and over and over again…

The clip is super long and from Designing Women, the “broken record” effect can be heard at 1:00!
